Hello, my name is Kurt Anderson and this is my first year of teaching! I will be the new 7th and 8th grade science teacher here in L'Anse. I am a lifelong resident of the U.P. and earned my teaching degree at Northern Michigan University last December. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, all kinds of sports, as well as doing just about anything outdoors. Last fall I spent four months in Montana for my student teaching where I managed to squeeze in a few of those outdoor activities. It looks to be an exciting and memorable year for me!

Hi, Hola! my name is Holly Belanger and this is my ninth year in teaching. I am a CMU and Wayne State graduate. I am currently teaching Spanish to middle and high school students. I am also certified to teach French. I have studied in Quebec, Mexico and Spain. I have also traveled to France and Switzerland. I enjoy bike riding, reading, traveling, attending church, and eating out. I am happily married and live in L'Anse.

I am Randy Cadeau and I live in the Village of L’Anse. My wife, Laura, and I have three daughters, all in college now. I have been an administrator and teacher in the Baraga County Schools since 1976, and in the L'Anse Area Schools since 1998. In 1975 I received a bachelor's degree from NMU with majors in science and math, along with a Masters degree in Elementary Education from NMU in 1991. I am currently teaching at the middle school as a 6th grade teacher. Lisa Cichosz was born and raised in L'Anse, Michigan. She graduated in 1997 before moving downstate to obtain her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Oakland University. She has a math major with a language arts minor. She is currently on her 4th year of teaching at L'Anse Middle School. In her free time, she enjoys reading, sports, and spending time with her husband, Chad and daughter, Lola.

Mrs. Collins is the school and public library director. Mrs. Collins is a lifelong resident of L'Anse having attended Sacred Heart School and L'Anse Area School, graduating in 1970. Her teaching career began in 1988 at Sacred Heart School, and she began teaching at L'Anse Area Schools in 1995. Until the 2008 school year, she taught classes in the Middle and High School. She has always had a love of reading and been a patron of the public library. When the opportunity presented itself to become the library director, she did not hesitate to apply for the position. She was also a founding member of the Friends of the Library. Her hobbies include lighthouse preservation, reading, cross-country skiing, quilting, spending time at camp, and watching the Green Bay Packer football games with her husband on Sunday afternoons. She has two grown, married sons, Jim and Chris, and three grandchildren.

My name is Kathy Gobert. I have been at L'Anse for 6 years. Currently, I am working in Grades 6-12.
I am originally from the Gladstone, Escanaba area.
My husband's name is Tom. We have 4 children.
In 2003 I graduated from NMU with a degree in English Language Arts and a Special Education endorsement.
In 2009 I received my Masters degree in the Area of Learning Disability.

Hi, I am Paul Moore. I have been teaching in L'Anse for six years and am now currently teaching in my seventh year. I currently teach 9th and 10th grade Resource Room for Math and Study Skills. I also teach one class of Middle School Resource Room for 8th grade math. I also serve as the school's Special Education Director and as an advisor for Youth in Government. Graduated NMU in 2005 and am in my first year of teaching. I teach middle and high school wood shop and high school Gym. I also did my student teaching at L'Anse in the spring of 2005. Enjoy being active and also enjoy the outdoors. I really enjoy the subject areas in which I teach. Lastly, I plan on starting my masters next year.

Brian Perry is the 6th grade English teacher at L'Anse Middle School. His classes include English, Writer's Workshop, and 8th grade Publications. Mr. Perry graduated from Grand Valley State University Honors College in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and an Elementary Education minor. He taught 6th grade at Stangel Elementary in Manitowoc, Wisconsin before coming to L'Anse. The '09-10 school year will be Mr. Perry's 3rd year in L'Anse. Jennifer Rubin is a middle and high school computer and technology instructor. She teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Computers, 9th grade Computer Applications, and Designing for Tomorrow (7th grade). She is originally from the Iron Mountain area and graduated from Michigan Tech University. Upon graduating, she worked in the business field for a few years in various capacities including Marketing, Human Resources, Sales, and Entrepreneurship. She is now living in the Houghton area with her husband.

My name is Melissa Scroggs and I currently teach students in grades 2-11. I have been teaching special education for 16 years. My experience is in cognitive impairments and learning disabilities. I lived in Texas for 22 years prior to moving to the UP. I have two boys who attend the L'Anse Area Schools. I enjoy cooking, reading and outdoor activities.

Here's a little bit about my background: I hold a Bachelor's degree (1977) from Northern Michigan University, and I have 54 post-graduate credit hours from NMU, Central Michigan University, Western Michigan University, and Eastern Michigan University. I'm certified in the State of Michigan in Social Studies grades 6-12 and Music Education grades k-12. Courses I've taught over my career are Band, grades 5-12; Choir, grades 9-12; Music Appreciation, grades 9-12; General Music, grades k-6; Government and Economics, grade 10; World History, grade 11; World Geography, grades 6 and 7; and Michigan History, Civics, and English, grade 7.

In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I was the L'Anse Coordinator for Destination Imagination from 2003-2007, and coached DI (and OM) teams for many years. When I was teaching band, I served at various times as Secretary, Vice President, and President for District 14 of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association. I'm also active in the L'Anse Athletic Boosters, currently serving as Treasurer, and was the advisor to the L'Anse Student Council from 1992-2005.

My wife, Betty, and I have lived in L'Anse for the past 24 years. We have been blessed with five children - All L'Anse grads and six grandchildren. I've been teaching in the public schools of Michigan and Wisconsin since 1977, and
Iam currently enjoying my 25th year with the L'Anse Area Schools.

I am currently teaching 8th grade American History and 11th grade World History. I am also the Middle School Track Coach and Youth In Government Co-Advisor (one of the best organizations out there). This is my 7th year teaching in L'Anse. I graduated from Northern Michigan University in 2001 with a B/S in Secondary Education with a major in history and a minor in political science. I am currently working towards my MAE in Eductional Administration. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my wife (Lori) and children (Josie, Sophie & Elijah) as well as hunting, fishing, going to camp, reading and watching high school and college football. This will be my first year teaching at L'Anse. I graduated from Central Michigan University May 2005 with a Bachelor of Music Education. My primary instrument is the trumpet, but I do play all instruments. I will be teaching K-5 elementary music and 5th grade band, also the middle school bands and the high school band. I am also the director of the marching band and the Pep band for the football and basketball games. I come from downstate in a city called Pinconning and I do have family in Marquette as well. Hi, I am Denise Wilder. This is my 9th year at L'Anse Area Schools. I received a B.S. in mathematics from Alma College in 1985 and an M.A. in curriculum & instruction from Andrews University in 1989. I have previously taught M.S. and H.S. mathematics in South Haven, Lawton & Bangor, Michigan. I also worked as a Curriculum Specialist for Southwestern Michigan Community College. I am married and have 3 children. I am proud to be a member of the L'Anse staff and community. My hobbies include volleyball and softball. My name is Risa Williamson. I am the K-8 School Guidance Counselor for C.J. Elementary and the L'Anse Middle School. I grew up in Green Bay, WI. I received a bachelor's degree in Psychology and a minor in coaching through the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. I moved up to the UP to work in the mental health field. I fell in love with this area and it suits me well. I made the switch to education when I worked at the ISD as a Behavioral Consultant. At that time, I went to NMU to pursue my Master's degree in Education - School Guidance Counseling. I have over 6 years experience with School Guidance Counseling and provide classroom lessons, individual counseling and small group counseling. During my free time, I love spending time with my daughter, golfing, camping, yoga, and relaxing. My husband is a Houghton native and we have one daughter and one dog.
